My photoshoot and styling for the wedding in vintage style “La Belle Époque”.
The end of the 19th century – 20th century. The beginning in the history of fashion is often called La Belle Époque (in French. “Beautiful Epoch”). The culture of leisure and fashion was a way of life up for many people before World War One. European capitals flourished entertainment, inhabitants were attracted by theatres and plays, vaudeville, exhibitions, horse racing, feasts, cafes, restaurants , picnics, etc. “Private entertainment did not disappear either – visits for guests, invitees gala banquets, parties.
This economic prosperity, beauty, happiness, enjoyment of life ended at the start of the First World War (often said that the Belle Époqueended with the collapse of the Titanic in 1912.). During this period, clothing was very luxurious. Women looked particularly romantic and classy.
S-shaped silhouette were very popular – where the garment creates a highly inflated chest look; decorated with lace, flounces, and other details that visually enhances the neckline. Waist ought to be flat, while the skirt – inflated, the back side was added with red cushions. Comically thinking: a woman wearing this looked like a goose. Only in 1908-1914 a different costume design formed that eliminated the pretentious silhouettes. In 1909 the silhouette became a straight skirt, narrowed and shortened by slightly revealing shoes. It appears like a “T” shaped silhouette, when a woman puts on a large, ornate hat. During the “Belle Époque” men, like women, dressed according to the norm of etiquette.Men wore a one-cut or double-cut jacket, and on special occasions they would have to wear an evening dress.
